In May of 2021, DEFRA began its plan to phase out wet woods and certain types of domestic coal in favour of cleaner, drier and safer alternatives, these fuels will carry a new mark of certification on packaging, shelving or elsewhere in-store, it is called the ‘Ready to Burn’ logo.
Any wood sold in volumes of less than 2m³ must by law carry this mark to confirm it has a moisture content of 20% or less. In simple terms that means sourcing from a trusted and reputable supplier who meets the new standards, is a new pre-requisite to buying.
Something that any firewood merchant or retailer doesn’t want to leave until those busy, colder months to sort out, because by then it may already be too late...
